No one should go to the pastures today
Everyone should bring their cows and calves, beautifully painted.
A boy is born in the house of Nanda; they are shouting out,
Dancing, singing, going mad with happiness.
‘Why are you doing something else?’ someone says,
‘Rush to the house of Nanda and fulfill the desires of your heart
by seeing the boy with your eyes.’
One is moving around, dipping curd
with a bunch of holy grass, and sprinkling it about;
another is touching the feet of the elders;
one is giving cows and clothes as gifts;
another is laughing and singing.
Young and old, men and women, their pleasure is fourfold:
They are so happy in the love of Surdas’ Lord,
They pay no special heed to any king or noble.
