This road’s been long
Now I must go
If I could I would stay
But what is true
In your heart you must know
I’ll see you again someday
I’ll see you again someday
I held on
As long as I was meant to
I held on longer still
I’m safe in this place
Where I’ll be forever
And I will wait for you
Yes, I’ll be waiting for you
When you come for the greatest embrace
That you will ever receive
You will see there had always been space
For the joy that you need to just keep on living
I’ll be waiting
And one day I’ll be in your arms again.
Can you believe that I am there with you
As you move through your day
I know you’re sad
But if you do love me
You’ll give all you have to each day
And love with abandon
And pray
When you come for the greatest embrace
That you will ever receive
You will see there had always been space
For the joy that you need to just keep on living
I’ll be waiting
And one day I’ll be in your arms again.
We may never know why
But then logic and reason
Never applied to our love anyway
(This was sung by Lisa Lynne Mathis herself at the Closing Ceremony of the 2008 Transplant Games)

There is a link there to buy her CD:

The guy who introduced her, whose name I don’t remember but he was a Pulitzer Prize winner, said he was hoping this would become the theme song for donor recognition.

Hi! I just found your blog through Google’s blog alerts and wanted to say hello — I don’t think we met in Pittsburgh — can you believe how many PEOPLE there were!?!? but I was there and as overcome by it all as it sounds like you were. I’m a living donor, gave a part of my liver to my younger brother a couple of years ago. He competed in basketball, the 4×4 relay race, volleyball, and ping pong. It was our first games, and we were all so proud of him!
Anyway, like you I chronicled my time there, but mostly in photos. I got some great ones at the track — maybe you’re in there! http://greatestgift.wordpress.com. Keep on zooming and I hope to see ya in Madison in ‘10!

Hi Becky.
It was also my first games. My son, Marken, gave me part of his liver 2 years ago when I was on the brink.
Nice photos and some good info about the two 6 gold medal winners from Team Arizona in swimming. My son who went with me and I were wondering how they won the overall medal count.
My donor son didn’t make it being at a summer job but maybe he will come next time.
