“Without protection of cows, brahminical culture cannot be maintained; and without brahminical culture, the aim of life cannot be fulfilled.”

Srimad Bhagavatam 8.24.5

I have just set up a cow protection fund raising page for GEETA, a 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to cow protection. It owns land and barns formerly owned by New Vrindaban Community, Inc.,  but exists solely for the benefit and welfare of the cows of New Vrindaban.

“For a Sanatanist (a follower of Vedic principles) it is the duty of every householder to have cows and bulls as household paraphernalia, not only for drinking milk, but also for deriving religious principles. The Sanatanist worships cows on religious principles and respects brahmanas. “

SB 1.17.3

If you drink milk or use milk products from commercial sources, you are contributing to a system where, in the end, both the cow and the calf she birthed to initiate milk flow will be slaughtered. That is not Vedic.

While it may not be possible as an individual in this modern world to raise cows personally and protect them, by donating to GEETA you can protect cows vicariously. This will offset the karma of buying Putana milk. This is a modern solution to implementing cow protection in the post industrial world.

Please check out my fund raising page and look into your heart and see if it doesn’t feel right to help support real cows by donating to GEETA (Gorakshya-seva and Environmental Education Trust of America).
